TYLER, Texas — Good evening East Texas,

Typical springtime humidity has returned to the piney woods. You could feel and see it in the form of clouds and some light drizzle or mist across the region. The humidity is here to stay and it helps to set the stage for rain and thunderstorms, starting Friday and lasting into next week. The Storm Prediction Center has areas of East Texas outlooked for potential severe weather Friday and Sunday. At this time, the Sunday threat appears to have more ingredients coming together for severe weather than Friday.

Here's your forecast:

TONIGHT:

As low level moisture from the gulf of Mexico continues to surge northward a couple of things will happen tonight. 1) We will continue to see plenty of cloud cover and 2) there is a chance for some thick fog and mist, especially over parts of Deep East Texas. Almost all of us will experience a warm night with low temperatures only dropping into the mid-60s. The wind is expected to be relatively light and out of the south at 5 to 10 mph.

TOMORROW:

Thursday will be the last day that you can leave the umbrella at home for a while.  The day may start gray but we might see some peeks of afternoon sunshine. But every cloud has a silver lining... East Texas will stay dry through the day.  This will allow afternoon temperatures to rise to the low-to-mid 80s.

THIS WEEKEND:

Rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast at the end of the week.  There is a level 2 risk of severe weather for parts of East Texas on Friday, including Smith county. A this time, it appears strong thunderstorms over North Texas will be in a weakening phase as they East Texas early Friday morning. A couple of these thunderstorms may have enough energy to still be severe when they get here. Otherwise, only isolated thunderstorms appear possible Friday afternoon in Deep East Texas. We appear to stay mostly clear on Saturday.  The severe risk returns to all of East Texas on Sunday.  Keep checking back with us for the latest.
