Car collides with train in Carthage

When officials arrived on scene, they discovered a passenger car stuck under a railcar.

CARTHAGE, Texas — One person was taken to a local hospital after a car hit a train in Carthage on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Panola Watchman, the crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Cotton Street and the railroad tracks. When officials arrived on scene, they discovered a passenger car stuck under a railcar.

The Panola County-area newspaper reports a man was taken to hospital by ambulance. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.

Neighbors told the newspaper the train had been stopped for some time before the crash. However, this was not confirmed by either police or fire officials.
