UPDATE: Sheriff's office identifies men involved in murder-suicide

Witnesses said Joshua Woodruff and Texas Manning got into a fight earlier on Wednesday and things seemed alright until later that evening when the two went to shoot a gun.

SMITH COUNTY — Smith County Sheriff, Larry Smith released the identities of the two men involved in a murder-suicide that was discovered just after 9 p.m. Wednesday after a local called authorities for a welfare check.

Deputies ended up finding two bodies just off of Highway 31.

The first victim identified as 31-year-old Joshua Alexander Woodruff, was found with multiple gunshot wounds.

Texas Colby Manning , the as 32-year-old second victim identified was a short distance away had suffered a single gunshot wound to the head.

Witnesses where Joshua Woodruff and Texas Manning were found said that the two men got into a fight earlier on Wednesday.

After that fight, things seemed like they were okay, according to a witness.

That night, Woodruff, Manning and the witness bought ammo and went to shoot a gun on 2457 Highway 31 W.

After getting search warrants and looking through the property, deputies found a vehicle at the gate, and started a preliminary investigation.

That investigation led to detectives to believe Manning shot a handgun at Woodruff several times, with bullets fatally striking him several times.

After further investigation, deputies believe that Manning turned the gun on himself after shooting Woodruff.

An investigation is still ongoing.
