Police release identity of driver, passenger in Sunday's crash in Lufkin

Police say criminal charges are pending.

LUFKIN, Texas — The Lufkin Police Department has released the identities of the two men involved in Sunday's afternoon crash on Loop 287.

Police identified the driver as Randal Dtray Shepard, 36, and the passenger as Charles Edward Becks, 34, both from Lufkin.

According to Lufkin PD, around 1:20 p.m. Shepard was driving a Chevy Avalanche when he hit a Honda Odyssey minivan in the rear before loosing control into vehicles in the lot of Al Meyer Ford. The Avalanche eventually landed on top of two vehicles in the lot.

The passenger was ejected on impact. The driver was found in the backseat by first responders. 

Police say neither of the victims were wearing a seatbelt.

Both men remain in the hospital and are expected to recover.

The family in the minivan, including two children ages 2 and 4, were not injured in the crash.

Officers also found what is believed to be K2 in Shepard’s pocket.

The crash is under investigation and criminal charges are pending.
