SMITH COUNTY — Officers from the Tyler Police Department are encouraging drivers to find alternate routes on Friday, Sept. 21, 2018 for the opening of the East Texas State Fair and Senior Citizens Day.

According to police, traffic will be limited to one lane on West Front Street in front of Harvey Hall in both East and West directions all day beginning Friday from 8 a.m. to midnight.

After that day, lanes will be open until 4 p.m. each day, then the traffic will go back to one lane that flows in each direction until the fair closes.

Tyler police are encouraging everyone crossing West Front to cross at the approved cross walk in front of the main gate.

Officers will provide traffic control at this cross walk for the safety of pedestrians.

Police are asking locals to be extremely cautious in this area due to the large volume of pedestrian traffic and officers directing traffic in the street.
