Rose City Trekkers host first-ever Wellness Manifesto

The Rose City Trekkers hosted its first-ever 'Wellness Manifesto' encouraging African American women to be aware of their physical and mental health.

TYLER, Texas - The Rose City Trekkers, a local fitness group in Tyler hosted its first-ever 'Wellness Manifesto' at the Phoenix Health Center in North Tyler.

Today's event encouraged African American women to be aware of their physical and mental health.

Spearheaded by LaShonda Malrey-Horne and LaTasha Portley, the event included a Vision Board refresh, yoga, facials, massages, and an 'Ask the Doctor Panel'.

Other speakers included, Turquoise Pipes, LPC, who led the mental health discussion as well as educator and author, Chisom Unegbu, Ed. D who provided nutrition and wellness tips.

The Rose City Trekkers are the official GirlTrek team in Tyler. Their mission is to encourage African American women to commit to 30 minutes of self care daily.

As part of the inaugural event, the Rose City Trekkers team also hosted Onika Jervis, a community organizer who represents GirlTrek's national group.

Jervis spoke candidly about the organization's mission and how they plan to rally one million Black women to walk in their neighborhoods for radical self-care and healing.
