CASS COUNTY — A Mexican national will spend nearly five years in prison after being sentenced in a federal drug trafficking case.
Benigo Guzman Ortiz, 20, pleaded guilty in May to federal charges of possession with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine.
According to the Department of Justice, officers stopped a van Ortiz was driving in September of 2017. Officers found 15 bundles of methamphetamine.
Ortiz confessed he had been hired to transport the drugs from Houston to Texarkana. He was indicted the next month by a grand jury.
Thursday, he was sentenced to 58 months in prison in federal court.
