Lufkin man arrested for setting fire to home, admitted to being serial arsonist

Charles Edward Wachal started a fire in Lufkin that killed a dog and admitted being responsible for fires in Missouri, New York and Houston.

ANGELINA COUNTY — Charles Edward Wachal, a Lufkin man, was arrested for setting fire to a home on Boradmoor Drive on June 14, 2018.

According to the Lufkin Police Department, a dog died in that fire, and when fire officials arrested Wachal, he admitted to being a serial arsonist.

Wachal ended up claiming responsibility for a 2003 fire at his home in Missouri; a 2006 fire in New York; a 2017 fire at a Houston apartment complex; and another 2017 fire in Houston that claimed six apartment buildings.

He is being held in the Angelina County Jail under a $100,000 bond.
