Cowboy boots, beer, barbecue and live music brings in the Red Dirt Festival

The fifth annual Red Dirt Festival kicked off in Tyler today with barbecue, beer, live music and more.

TYLER — Boots, beer and barbecue, that's the theme of the fifth annual Red Dirt Festival in Tyler today.

Of course, you can't forget the live music.

Everyone there was having a finger licking good time.

""First time in my life I've ever said I'm full. I'm full right now. Best brisket I've ever had in my life," festival goer Trevor Dickschat said.

Twenty five of the best barbecue vendors in the state are all there for the meat.

"I think we went through probably about a hundred pounds today," Scott Austin with Slow Bone Barbecue said.

For many of them who come year after year, it's all about the atmosphere and the people.

"The best part is we've made a lot of friends every year we come out," BJ Schindler with Micklethwait Craft Meats said. "We get to see everybody when we come out, so it's like a big reunion."

Of course, you can't forget about the music, with five Red Dirt headliners.

Everyone may be there for a different reason...

"We're here for the BBQ, we're here for the music, the good times," Jake Townsend, a festival goer, said.

But they'll all agree, it's one of the best weekends of the year.

"It seems like each year it's a better and better time," Townsend said.

The festival is sold out for this year, but it'll be back next year and better than ever.
