Born and raised in Henderson, John had a head start on observing East Texas weather patterns. Five weeks after graduating from Henderson High School, he reported to the United States Air Force Academy outside of Colorado Springs. He spent the next 2 years as a member of the class of 1975. He then spent the next year in Huntsville (at Sam Houston State University, not the prison) where he developed his interest in weather. Finally, he transferred to Texas A&M University and earned his degree in meteorology.

John has worked in television and radio as a meteorologist and occasional sports photographer since 1976. He also earned his license as a securities broker and spent a brief time with A.G. Edwards & Sons in Tyler. All of his career has been spent in Texas with stops at Bryan, Beaumont, and Austin before coming to Tyler in 1982.

John got a good haircut when he first moved to Beaumont, and he figured he could get free haircuts for life if he married his barber, so that's what he did. Theresa and John have raised a daughter and two sons, and they have one granddaughter.
